Equipment stolen from Southwest Missouri firefighters

PIERCE CITY, Mo. — Thieves target Southwest Missouri firefighters, making off with thousands of dollars of equipment.

It was the result of a break-in on Friday at the Pierce City Fire Protection District building at Highway 60 and Wallaby Road.

Stolen items included an air compressor, wrenches, and the Jaws of Life.

The loss is estimated at $3,000.

Officials are working on replacing what was taken.

They do have backup equipment.

They’re also working to make their buildings more secure.

“We have two stations that are kind of outside of town, and kind of sit by themselves, so we’re looking to add some security equipment and possibly some security doors that are not as easy to penetrate,” said Zac Kirch, Pierce City Fire Protection District.

Anyone with information regarding the missing equipment is asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office 417-451-8333.
