Eric Bieniemy calls Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ‘a competitive prick’
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy used some colorful language to describe starting QB Patrick Mahomes on Saturday.
Bieniemy described Mahomes as, “a competitive prick,” not once, but twice during his media availability on Saturday. No, Bieniemy wasn’t mad at Mahomes. He wasn’t even referring to Mahomes in a negative way. It’s not like Mahomes stole Bieniemy’s parking space at 1 Arrowhead Drive or something.
Bieniemy doesn’t harbor any ill-will toward Mahomes. He used the word “prick” as a term of endearment to describe Mahomes’ competitive nature. While most commonly seen as an insult, it can be used as a term of endearment. Bieniemy used it while explaining how Mahomes gets better moving forward after all of the early success in his career.
“Now with Pat [Mahomes], I’ll say this,” Bieniemy began. “Kudos to Pat, he’s done a heck of a job. He’s had a great career so far, but you guys have been around him, you know him. He’s a competitive prick, OK. He’s a great kid, but he’s a competitive prick. He wants to improve at everything he can possibly improve upon. He wants to be the best at whatever he can do. Along the way, he wants to make sure that he’s leading the guys. He wants to be held accountable by his peers. But also too, he just wants to work and that’s what you love about being around him every single day.”
That competitive streak that Bieniemy so colorfully described is what will make Mahomes better for years to come. It could be something as simple as giving it his all during training camp practices and not letting the defense off easy. It could be the extra work that he puts in with his film study. Whatever the case, Mahomes being, “a competitive prick” is part of what makes him such a special player.
