WORCESTER — Eric Lindquist, the one-time voice of the Worcester Sharks and Worcester Railers, has passed away.

The Railers announced his death on their Facebook page on Tuesday. The team did not give a cause of the death.

"The Worcester Railers are heartbroken by the sudden passing of Eric Lindquist," the team wrote.

Lindquist, 43, was most recently the director of communications for Off The Rails, a restaurant and music venue next to the DCU Center.

"His legacy will be carried on through the memory of his larger-than-life personality that left smiles on the faces of everyone he knew," the Facebook post reads. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

Off The Rails is affiliated with the Railers through owner Cliff Rucker.

Lindquist spent much of his career as a sports announcer and in team marketing.

He grew up in North Andover and attended Northeastern University in Boston. He graduated in 2001. He announced college games on the radio and had an internship with the Boston Bruins.

He moved to Hollywood after college, working for a sports agency.

In California, he was able to take part in one of his favorite pastimes: game shows. He appeared on 11 of them, including "The Price is Right." He won the Showcase Showdown. As a teenager, he won $60,000 during teen week on the "Wheel of Fortune."

Lindquist returned home to announce Lowell Lock Monsters games before heading back to California to be the radio voice of the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs. When the team folded after one season, Lindquist made his way to Worcester, where he was hired as the voice of the Worcester Sharks.

He called games on radio and television for several seasons, also handling public relations tasks for the team.

He spent two years in a similar role with the San Jose Barracuda hockey team before returning to Worcester in 2016 to work for the newly formed Worcester Railers. He handled marketing for the team into late 2020.
