Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet has been a Chiefs fan since birth.

Stonestreet, who grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, joined Peter Schrager’s “The Season” podcast to talk about his career and, of course, the Chiefs.

As a teenager, Stonestreet used his uncle’s season tickets to attend Chiefs games, but now he’s got a suite at Arrowhead Stadium and considers general manager Brett Veach a friend.

“He’s incredible and not enough is said about him as a GM first, I don’t think, but also as a person. I think he’s a quality human being,” Stonestreet told Schrager. “And I tell people all the time that we are lucky to have Brett Veach is our GM, but getting to know him and his thought process and his care and concern for the players and thoughtfulness of the fans and everyone in the organization and how much he is involved in the minutia in a good way.

“We are very, very lucky to have him as a leader of our Chiefs.”

Stonestreet said he first became a season-ticket holder in the late 1980s, although it took a while to persuade his father to allow him to go to every Chiefs game.

After “Modern Family” became a huge hit, Stonestreet’s acting schedule kept him from getting back to Arrowhead Stadium as often as he may have liked.

However, Stonestreet eventually got a suite at Arrowhead Stadium, and the location has special meaning.

“Right at the end of the Bill Kenney era is when I got season tickets. Steve DeBerg, those guys were all there. And I had season tickets in the no-alcohol section,” Stonestreet said. “That was the way I got my dad to let us get season tickets as a kid. So we were there, and now the suite that we have is right above those seats, which is such a cool full-circle moment.”

So what made Stonestreet break down and get the suite? It was a conversation with Veach that sealed the deal. That talk took place ahead of the 2019 season.

“When we started to become pals, he literally said, ‘You’re not gonna want to miss games this season.’ And I said, ‘For real?’ And he’s like, ‘Dude, we’re going to the Super Bowl, and you don’t want to miss this.’ So I called Tyler, the then-VP at the Chiefs, and said, ‘What do you have available?’

“This was the last season of ‘Modern Family.’ So I was making trips home every week that the Chiefs were here. We signed up for the suite, got the suite. And I didn’t miss a game because Brett Veach told me not to miss a game and he delivered on his promise. We went to the Super Bowl and won it.”
