Eric Trump claims media biased against dad’s corn kernel polling in Iowa

This morning on Fox and Friends, Eric Trump claimed media bias over coverage of the famed “Cast Your Kernel” polling at the Iowa State Fair, in which attendees place a single kernel of corn into the jar of the presidential candidate they favor.

Trump claimed the jar of his father, President Donald Trump, was overflowing compared to the turnout of some Democrats such as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, but that news outlets covering the poll were only displaying images of Democrats’ jars.

“Trump's bowl is totally overflowing, right, but they'll actually only show the Democrats," Eric Trump said on Fox and Friends.

Des Moines television station WHO-HD, which has its own corn kernel poll tracker, found the president has so far received 97% of the votes that went to Republicans as of Tuesday. On the other side, former Vice President Joe Biden is in the lead with 23% of the votes for Democrats and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg is in second with 17%. De Blasio is currently shown to have 0% of the Democratic kernels.

The site notes that Democrats and Republicans have received roughly equal votes, indicating that Donald Trump indeed holds the most votes overall at present.

"It's sick that that has to be the narrative in this country and no one can even talk about it unless somebody comes over with their phone, snaps a picture because they happen to be a supporter and it ends up going viral," Eric Trump said.

More than 20 candidates were campaigning over the weekend at the fair, vying for votes in the state that holds the first nominating contest of the presidential election.

The corn kernel vote is a tradition at the Iowa State Fair and has accurately predicted some primary outcomes. Ahead of the 2016 caucuses in Iowa, Hillary Clinton dominated the Democratic corn kernels and went on to win in that state, while Trump also snagged the most Republican kernels but was outpaced in the caucus by Ted Cruz.

Voting closes in the “Cast Your Kernel” poll on August 18.
