Here are their thoughts on the position's responsibilities: chairing the commonwealth's board of pardons, steering emergency response policy and — in an extreme event — taking the mantle as governor.

The Senate majority leader and four Republican lawmakers who signed a pledge against Pennsylvania's mail-in balloting have used that very way to cast their votes in the last two years, according to an analysis of voter data by the USA TODAY Network Pennsylvania.

They're among nearly a third of Pennsylvania's 8.76 million registered voters who have cast a ballot by mail since no-excuse mail-in ballots were enacted through Act 77 in 2019. But unlike the many millions of other Pennsylvanians who voted the last two years, the Republican lawmakers' actions in privcontradicticts their words in public.

Erie County election officials have seen an unusual amount of Right-to-Know requests in the past two months, as people looking for voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election seek voter-related documents not available for public review.

Erie County Clerk Julie Slomski, who oversees the county's elections, said more than 20 Right-to-Know requests have been submitted to the Erie County Elections Department between August and September — with 15 requests coming in one week alone.

She said many of the requests appeared to be "copy and paste" requests — which all use the same language and wording — in search of cast-vote records, which are electronic, auditable records that are generated by ballot-counting machines and show a voter's selections.
