Erie City Council accepting applications for vacancy

Erie City Council is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the seven-member panel for at least the next two years.

Applications will be accepted through Friday and can be submitted to City Clerk Laurie Watson’s office at Room 104, Municipal Building, 626 State Street, Erie, Pa. 16501 or by email to cityclerk@erie.pa.us.

City Councilman Ed Brzezinski, who won re-election in the Nov. 8 municipal election, also won a two-year seat that was also on the ballot because of the January resignation of former City Council President Liz Allen.

Councilwoman Susannah Faulkner is serving in that seat as an appointee until Jan. 1.

As a result of Brzezinski’s dual wins, City Solicitor Ed Betza has said that according to state law, City Council is now required to appoint someone to serve in the former Allen seat between Jan. 2 and Jan. 1, 2026.

Brzezinski has said he plans to accept the four-year seat he won on Nov. 8. Faulkner has said she is interested in being reappointed.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and residents of the City of Erie for at least one year. Interested applicants should submit a one-page resume to Watson’s office along with a one-page letter of interest.
