Soccer, volleyball, tennis and more: Erie County high school Top Performers, Oct. 17-22

Here are some of the best performances by high school athletes from Erie County over the past week. Find new highlights throughout the week at GoErie.com. Vote for the Athletes and Football Player of the Week between 5 p.m. Monday and 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Football

Kyle Birkmire, General McLane: His two touchdowns helped the Lancers win 35-20 at Girard and clinch first place in District 10 Region 5.

Ja'son Ellman, Mercyhurst Prep: He had touchdown receptions of 11 yards and 23 yards ahead of his 66-yard punt return for a third score as the Lakers won 44-0 at Union City.

Michael Gennuso, Fairview: The Tigers beat North East 31-30 when their kicker, for the second time in three games, converted a field goal (24 yards) as time expired.

Nolan Seabury, Seneca: The Bobcats quarterback used a run-pass option attack to account for four touchdowns and 185 yards in offense, and also recorded an interception on defense, during a 34-26 Region 2 victory at Northwestern.

Rayfes Roberts Jr., Cathedral Prep: The junior compiled 134 yards in total offense and three touchdowns when the Ramblers blanked Erie High 44-0 at Veterans Stadium.

Trey Goodwine, McDowell: Two of his three receptions resulted in lengthy touchdowns for the Trojans when they won 48-24 at Butler.

Justin Leuschen, Fort LeBoeuf: He rushed for 214 yards and a touchdown when the Bison beat visiting Corry 28-6.

Boys golf

Josh James, Union City: The 2021 PIAA Class 2A champion was the ninth-place medalist (6-over par 150) in his bid to repeat.

Breckin Taylor, Cathedral Prep: The senior, in his final appearance for the Ramblers, was the fifth-place medalist (2-over par 146) at the PIAA Class 3A tournament in State College.

Girls golf

Katie Caryl, Mercyhurst Prep: Her round of 83 was the lowest for the Lakers, who earned the Class 2A girls second-place trophy at the PIAA team tournament at State College.

Anna Swan, North East: She was the silver medalist (1-over par 145) for the PIAA Class 2A girls tournament at Penn State's Blue Course.

Girls tennis

Trinity Fox, Fairview: Her 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 singles match accounted for the first team points in the Tigers' 5-0 dual win over DuBois in a PIAA Class 3A subregion dual at Westwood Racquet Club.

Mackenzee Jewell, Fairview: The freshman, in just her fourth start, won her No. 3 singles match when they beat McDowell 4-1 in District 10's Class 3A team final at Westwood.

Sophia Glance, Cathedral Prep: A 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 singles match gave the Ramblers an insurmountable lead en route to their 5-0 shutout of Warren in District 10's Class 2A team final. Her 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 3 singles was the most dominant win the Ramblers recorded when they blanked Grove City 5-0 in a district semifinal dual.

Boys soccer

Eric Gamboa, Mercyhurst Prep: His hat trick, plus an assist, guided the Lakers to a 7-0 shutout of General McLane.

Owen Peterson, McDowell: He scored three goals and assisted on a fourth for the Trojans, who won an 8-1 non-region match against Bradford.

Logan Kuhn, Iroquois: He scored twice during the Braves' 5-0 victory at Saegertown.

Mike McGuigan, North East: He scored twice and assisted once for the Grapepickers, who won 5-1 at Fort LeBoeuf.

Brandon Konieczki, Harbor Creek: His second-half goal held up as the game-winner for the Huskies, who defeated General McLane 1-0.

Lukas Bentsen, McDowell: He scored one goal and assisted on a second in the Trojans' 4-2 victory against Corry.

Girls soccer

Alexa Tojaga, Cathedral Prep: Her goal and assist helped the Ramblers defeat General McLane 3-2.

Evelyn Bish, North East: She scored the Grapepickers' go-ahead goal in their 2-0 victory over Franklin.

Elise Cacchione, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison, thanks to her four goals, clinched first place in District 10 Region 4 with their 5-1 victory against Harbor Creek. She recorded a goal and an assist when the Bison tied Cathedral Prep 3-3.

Olivia Pikiewicz, Seneca: Her back-to-back goals in the first half were part of the Bobcats' 7-0 shutout of Maplewood.

Mallory Hammill, Seneca: The Bobcats' goalkeeper made their lone score hold up for a 1-0 victory against Eisenhower.

Jenna Ellsworth, McDowell: Her goal and three assists stood out in the Trojans' 9-0 rout of Meadville.

Ayiana Thompson, North East: Her hat trick accounted for all of the Grapepickers' offense when they beat Corry 3-1.

Olivia Dixon, Cathedral Prep: She scored twice for the Rambles when they tied Fort LeBoeuf at 3-all.

Girls volleyball

Cadence Jones, North East: Her mammoth total of 37 kills plus 11 digs helped the Grapepickers clinch first place in Region 4 with their four-set victory over Corry.

Michayla Magee, Union City: Her 25 assists and 14 digs from the Bears' backcourt helped them rally for a five-set win against Fort LeBoeuf.

Kaylin Laird, Cathedral Prep: She recorded a team-high 17 kills during the Ramblers' four-set win over Erie High.

Makenna Moore, Corry: Her nine kills, 16 digs and five aces helped the Beavers sweep Fort LeBoeuf 27-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Alyssa Radtke, McDowell: She recorded a double-double (37 assists and 12 digs) when the Trojans beat General McLane in four sets.

Julia Seth, Mercyhurst Prep: Her 43 assists and 18 digs from the Lakers' backcourt helped them defeat Girard in four sets.

Olivia Swinarski, Harbor Creek: Her 10 kills and 11 digs helped the Huskies sweep Union City 25-16, 25-21, 25-13.

Lilli Mook, General McLane: Her 11 kills, five digs and three aces were notable when the Lancers swept West Middlesex 25-22, 27-25, 25-23.

Khyli Peterson, Seneca: She had a team-high seven kills and 16 digs, which helped the Bobcats beat Erie High in four sets.

Boys cross country

Kamden Kramer, McDowell: His time of 16 minutes, 28.3 seconds was more than 53 seconds faster than the second-place runner at the Northwest Pennsylvania Invitational in Harborcreek Community Park.

Ryan Kelly, Mercyhurst Prep: His first-place time of 15:59 helped the Lakers defeat Iroquois 21-37 at Frontier Park.

Ben Schrumpf, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison beat host Fairview 20-35 in large part because of his first-place time of 17:48.

Girls cross country

Sarah Clark, Cathedral Prep: Her first-place time of 20 minutes, 6.4 seconds was the fastest of the three Ramblers who earned the gold, silver and brozne medals for the Northwest Pennsylvania Invitational at Harborcreek Community Park.

Ella Harrington, Mercyhurst Prep: She had the fastest time (18:04) when the Lakers and Iroquois raced at Frontier Park.

Madison Chew, Iroquois: The Braves beat Mercyhurst Prep 15-50 in part because of her second-place dual time of 18:47.

Isabel Owens, Fairview: Competing on her home course, her winning time of 22:07 helped the Tigers defeat Fort LeBoeuf 23-32.

Boys water polo

Aidan Levis, Cathedral Prep: His four goals in an 8-5 victory against Springfield held the Ramblers qualify for the state tournament.

Hockey

Brayden Sprickman, Cathedral Prep: He was responsible for all of the Ramblers' scoring when they defeated Mt. Lebanon 2-1 at Erie Bank Sports Park.
