Erie County Aug. 22-27 Top Performers: 295-yard rusher, 3-goal scorer, tennis debut star

Every Monday during the high school sports fall seasons, the Erie Times-News will publish the Erie County high school sports Top Performers from the past week's competition. Top Performers for the competition week of Aug. 22-27:

Football

Lloyd Fountain, Northwestern: The quarterback accounted for five touchdowns and more than 250 yards in offense in 45-21 victory at Girard.

Michael Gennuso, Fairview: He kicked a 31-year field goal and two extra points for the Tigers, who won 17-7 at Mercyhurst Prep.

Justin Leuschen, Fort LeBoeuf: His 73-yard touchdown run on the game's first play from scrimmage, and his 112 yards overall, helped the Bison rout Conneaut 63-6 at Waterford.

Ryan Miller, Seneca: He accounted for 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns on offense, plus 13 tackles on defense as the Bobcats beat Lakeview 40-13 in coach Jack Corey's debut.

Artis Simmons, McDowell: The Trojans' star running back rushed for 295 yards and three touchdowns, and had six receptions for another 42, in a 56-37 win against Ohio's Walsh Jesuit at Gus Anderson Field.

Boys soccer

Noah Handzel, Cathedral Prep: His hat trick highlighted the Ramblers' 5-0 shutout of North Catholic.

Mason Artz, Girard: He accounted for the YellowJackets' lone goal when they opened their season with a 1-0 victory against Iroquois.

Eric Gamboa, Mercyhurst Prep: He contributed a goal and an assist during the Lakers' 4-1 victory over Seneca.

Girls soccer

Ashley Froess, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison tied Pittsburgh power Oakland Catholic 1-1 thanks to her goal.

Sara Gennuso, Fairview: The region midfielder scored one of the Tigers' goals when they blanked host Slippery Rock 3-0.

Molly Taylor, Mercyhurst Prep: She scored twice for the Lakers when they beat Pittsburgh's Oakland Catholic 3-2 in their season opener.

Evelyn Bish, North East: The returning all-region midfielder for the Grapepickers scored one goal and assisted on another when they routed Iroquois 7-0 in their season opener.

Boys golf

Nick Momeyer, Mercyhurst Prep: His round of 79 was the lowest for the Lakers when they finished first for a Region 5 mega-match at North East's Green Meadows Golf Course. Earlier in week, he was the medalist (76) for a non-region dual between the Lakers and Titusville at Cross Creek Resort, and his 78 was the best for a mega-match the Lakers won at Lawrence Park Golf Club.

Leyton Hassenplug, North East: His even-par round of 72 made him the medalist for a Region 5 mega-match the Grapepickers hosted at Green Meadows Golf Course.

Nathan James, Corry: He shot a nine-hole round of 38 at North Hills Municipal Golf Course, where the Beavers beat the visiting Titusville Rockets 197-201.

Kyle Westfall, Erie High: The reigning District 10 Class 3A gold medalist led the Royals to a non-region dual victory over Union City with his nine-hole round of 36 at the Union City Country Club.

Josh James, Union City: The PIAA's reigning Class 2A titlist shot a nine-hole score of 36 for co-medalist honors during a non-region dual against Erie High at Union City Country Club. He also was the individual victor (74) for a Region 3 mega-match at Venango Valley Inn and Golf Course.

Will Fessler, Fairview: He led the Tigers to a 15-stroke dual victory against Harbor Creek at North East's Green Meadows Golf Course.

Breckin Taylor, Cathedral Prep: His round of 74, the lowest for an individual, helped the Ramblers win a Region 6 mega-match at Lake Shore Country Club.

Trey Thompson, Cathedral Prep: He led the Ramblers with an 82 when they competed in the Wildcat Invitational at Latrobe.

Alexis Marsh, McDowell: Her nine-hole round of 36 was the lowest for the Trojans when they beat Erie High and Meadville in a Region 3 mega-match.

Elizabeth D'Andrea, Erie High: She was the individual medalist (34) for the Royals' Region 3 mega-match with McDowell and Meadville. Her round of 76 was good for third place at the Tam O'Shanter Invitational in Hermitage.

Izzy Barbero, Mercyhurst Prep: Her nine-round round of 39 was the lowest for the Lakers when they won a Region 2 mega-match at Waterford's Fox Run Golf Course.

Jordyn Seidler, Harbor Creek: She was an individual co-medalist (39) for a Region 2 mega-match at Fox Run Golf Course.

AnnaMarie Zinram, Cathedral Prep: Her nine-hole round of 39 was the lowest for the Ramblers when they won a Region 2 mega-match at Beechwood Golf Club.

Anna Swan, North East: The Grapepickers' star junior was the individual medalist (34) for a Region 2 mega-match at Beechwood Golf Club.

Katie Caryl, Mercyhurst Prep: Her round of 85 helped the Lakers to second place in Hermitage's Tam O'Shanter Invitational.

Girls tennis

Trinity Fox

Trinity Fox, Fairview: District 10's defending Class 3A champion won her No. 2 singles match when the Tigers edged Hollidaysburg, a traditional District 6 power, 3-2 in a non-region dual. Earlier in the week, she also won her No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 when the Tiigers won 5-0 against Ashtabula (Ohio) Edgewood.

Lauren Richmond, Mercyhurst Prep: The Lakers' No. 1 singles starter won 6-0, 6-0 when they swept Oil City 5-0 in their season opener.

Nabiah Bhatti, McDowell: The Trojans blanked Shaler 5-0 in their season opener with help from their No. 1 singles player, who won 6-0, 6-0.

Vivian Liu, Fairview: The freshman, in her varsity debut, won 6-0, 6-0 as the Tigers' No. 1 singles starter during their 5-0 non-region shutout of Conneaut (Ohio).
