Erie hosts several events in October to honor breast cancer awareness month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and here is a list of scheduled events in the Erie area:

Pink Perry Square, Thursday from 6-7 p.m.

Water in the Perry Square fountain will be colored pink to support breast cancer awareness. Sponosred by UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and UPMC Hamot. Meet UPMC Hamot Breast Center staff and physicians and hear survivor stories. Free, with light refreshments.

AHN wig program open house, Friday from noon-1 p.m.

Cancer patients are invited to the open house on the first floor of the AHN Cancer Institute, 3508 Myrtle St. Visitors will receive a tour of the wig salon to learn more about the program. Patients can also sign up to schedule an appointment for a wig fitting. Free, and cupcakes will be served.

Awareness Event, Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

My Sister's Keeper will host the event at Friendship Baptist Church, 1719 Cascade St. The goal is to raise awareness about breast cancer and support those affected by it. Free, with reservations made by visiting www.eventbrite.com and searching under "Friendship Baptist Church" and "Erie".

Pink Out Dance Day, Oct. 15, 9:30 a.m.

Sponsored by Jazzercise Erie Fitness Center and held at Frontier Park, the event is free but donations will be accepted to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Participants are asked to wear pink shirts.

Sip N' Style, Oct. 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Hosted by Strategy Solutions and Vintage & Soul Home, 916 W. Erie Plaza Drive. Enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuveres and receive styling tips while supporting the American Cancer Society. Event is a donation. To RSVP, visit bit.ly/eventsipnstyle.

UPMC Hamot MammoMarathon, Oct. 20, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

The daylong event will be held at UPMC Hamot Imaging Center, 3406 Peach St. Women 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the last year are eligible to participate in this event, which includes wellness activities, therapy dogs, refreshments and raffles. Call 814-877-6123 to schedule an appointment, though walk-ins are welcome.
