Erie musicians share thoughts on the pros and cons of online music instruction

Erie-area music teachers who teach privately, either in their homes or through music studios, have had to adapt as music instruction — a skill that has traditionally been taught face-to-face — has moved online.

But where does that leave in-person music instructors?

Area instructors and musicians Steve Barone, Frank Singer and Linda Kobler offer their views on the changing music instruction landscape, online instruction and how they've adjusted.

Barone: “I learned stuff from (online videos), but more often than not, I learned better ways to teach what I'm already teaching,” he said.

Singer: "12 years ago, nobody was doing (online music instruction)." He's been teaching online that long.

Kobler: "As a pianist, I can say that there's absolutely no way you can teach good sound production over the internet. Absolutely not.”
