Erin and Ben Napier Shared the Story Behind How They Met Sheryl Crow

Ben and Erin Napier's new series Home Town Takeover is officially here! The first episode premiered on HGTV and discovery+ on Sunday and it did not disappoint. Not only was it jam-packed with feel-good moments, a guest star appearance from Dave and Jenny Marrs, and a look into the iconic movie house from Big Fish... but then Sheryl Crow gave a live (and socially-distanced) concert in downtown Wetumpka, Alabama. It was truly the perfect way to celebrate all the exciting changes to come in the community.
In a phone call with House Beautiful last week, Ben and Erin shared the cute story behind their friendship with the Grammy-award-winning singer. In short, as Ben put it "through our Airstream," which you may recall was featured in season four of Home Town. The retro travel trailer, which Ben and Erin renovated and named Jolene, was gifted to them by their friends country music duo Chris and Morgane Stapleton. As Erin noted, Crow was also close with the Stapletons and had heard about the Napiers' gorgeous Airstream renovation. "She reached out to them to see if she could get in touch with us about possibly helping her restore an Airstream trailer she had," Erin said.
The Napiers and Crow tried to coordinate a time to get this project off the ground, but unfortunately, the pandemic hit and they were unable to find a safe way to make it work. During their talks, however, they bonded over their love for small towns. "She told us how much it meant to her that we were so invested in small town America because she's from a small town in Missouri," Erin said, adding that "she asked if there was way any way she could help us." Fast forward to the filming of Home Town Takeover and the Napiers took her up on that offer, and we're so glad they did.
As one resident said during the episode: "If Ben and Erin can get Sheryl Crow to Wetumpka, then they can do amazing things." That's for sure! You can continue to follow Ben and Erin's adventures in Wetumpka every Sunday during new episodes of Home Town Takeover on discovery+ or HGTV at 8 pm ET/PT.
