Erosion in Cuyahoga Valley National Park curtails most scenic railroad excursions

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has suspended its public runs this weekend because of erosion issues along some of its tracks.

Some sections of the track used by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park have been closed for safety reasons.

The National Park Service says erosion from the Cuyahoga River is the culprit.

This is forcing the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to limit its offerings this weekend.

The planned Cleveland Dinner and Event Train will run as scheduled as will the members-only Pumpkin Patch Train Ride.

The National Park Scenic, Explorer Program, and Fall Flyer runs have all been canceled for the weekend.

The park service says it is already looking at potential repairs so the rail excursion service can resume.

The scenic railroad's popular North Pole Adventure excursions in November are still on, but officials say it may have to be "modified" this year if repairs are not completed on time.

“We are going to do everything we can to allow the train to return to normal operations as soon as possible," said Park Superintendent Lisa Petit.

Customers with tickets for this weekend's public fall excursions should receive refunds within three to five days.

Erosion issues have also closed the park's Old Carriage Trail Bridge in Sagamore Hills.
