Less than a week after surviving a terrifying rollover crash in his Ferrari, WBC/IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. could be facing some legal consequences.

The Dallas Police Department released a statement Wednesday announcing that it had charged Spence with driving while intoxicated, a class B misdemeanor.

In Texas, a DWI is defined as operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent. The class B level of charge, however, indicates Spence’s BAC wasn’t above 0.15 percent.

Spence was not wearing seat belt, escaped crash with minimal injury

The one-car crash in question occurred early Thursday morning when Spence’s car crossed the median of a Dallas road and rolled over several times. Spence, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car.

The crash occurred less than a month after Spence’s split-decision win over Shawn Porter in Los Angeles on Sept. 28 to improve his record to 26-0 and unify the welterweight titles. The 29-year-old Spence is currently ranked as the No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer in the world by Yahoo Sports.

A nearby security camera captured the incredible crash in action.

Spence was hospitalized after the accident, and somehow escaped that crash with no broken bones. He did sustain some facial lacerations.

Minutes before the Dallas P.D. released its statement, Spence sent out his first message since the crash, saying “No broken bones I’m a savage!!” on his Instagram story. The post has since been deleted.
