Escaped halfway house inmate struck, killed on Nashua highway

Jun. 9—A person on escape status from a Manchester halfway house was struck and killed Wednesday night by a car on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua, New Hampshire State Police said.

Roland Labbe, 67, had been missing from the Calumet House in Manchester since June 1. He was struck and killed after being missing for a week.

State police said the accident took place about 10:45 p.m. at Exit 6 on the southbound side of the Everett. Labbe was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the 2006 Toyota Corolla, Saly Kruth, 53, of Lowell, Mass., was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for evaluation. A statement made no mention of details of the crash. A state police photograph highlights the accident scene as the area where the entrance ramp begins to merge into the highway.

According to the Department of Corrections, Labbe was a minimum security inmate when he failed to return to the halfway house on June 1. He signed out that morning to look for work and was expected to return by noon.

He had been imprisoned for aggravated felonious sexual assault against a minor and had a minimum parole date of Oct. 22.
