Escarraman hurls Whips to twinbill sweep

May 20—WILLIMANTIC — Analise Escarraman struck out 28 batters on Thursday as the Windham High softball team swept a doubleheader with Eastern Connecticut Conference inter- division victories over Tourtellotte (6-4) in Game 1 and New London ( 6- 3) in the nightcap. Alyssa Lebiszczak drove in two runs and Aniya Jenkins went 2-for-2 as the Whips (11-8) scored three runs in the first and second innings in the opener against the Tigers (1-16).

Escarraman allowed one hit and struck out 13 batters in five innings.

Escarraman threw a complete game with 15 strikeouts in the nightcap over the Whalers (1-15).

Lebiszczak went 3- for-4 and Sol Lebron drove in two runs for the Whips, who scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3- 2 deficit.

RHAM dropped its first Central Connecticut Conference East Division game at Enfield, 3- 1.

Hadley Marchand scattered six hits, struck out 11 batters and allowed one earned run for the Raptors ( 15- 4 overall, 6- 1 league). Abigail Pace had an RBI single in the second inning that opened the scoring.

Meredith Higgins went 3- for- 3 with an RBI and Taylor Lathrop added an RBI for the Eagles (15-4, 7-0), who scored all of their runs in the fifth inning.

In Coventry, Julia Boya, Sara Miller and Elizabeth Mitchell all drove in runs for the host Patriots in a 4- 0 North Central Connecticut Conference victory over Rockville.

Mitchell struck out nine batters in the circle for Coventry (14-4).

BASEBALL

Josh Person struck out nine batters over six innings for Lyman Memorial in a 3-0 non-conference loss at Somers.

Alex Ortiz doubled for the Bulldogs (14-5).

Cody Palezzi and Kaede Wood both hit 2-out RBI singles in the bottom of the third for the Spartans (16-4).

Palezzi also threw a complete- game 4- hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD Resia Baran finished first in the triple jump ( 34- 1) and pole vault (9-0) for Windham, which defeated Tourtellotte (81-33) and dropped a 113-32 decision to Ledyard on Tuesday.

Kyleigh Miller won the 400 ( 1: 02.1) and Iyanna Pannell captured the dicsus (76-6) for the Whips (5-6).
