ESL Federal Credit Union warns members of phishing text scam in Rochester
ESL Federal Credit Union has issued a warning to its members about fraudulent phishing text messages circulating in the Rochester region.
Scammers are posing as ESL, sending text messages that resemble legitimate ones used by the credit union to verify debit card transactions. The text messages prompt recipients to click on a phishing link, attempting to steal sensitive personal information.
ESL is alerting its customers not to click on any links in such text messages, as the credit union never solicits personal information through text messages or requests members to verify data using clickable links, according to ESL.
FRAUD ALERT: We are receiving reports that text messages are being sent to members that are posing as the messages ESL sends to verify debit card transactions. The follow up message includes a phishing link to click. Do not click the link in this text message! 1/3 #ROC pic.twitter.com/gKTFdArGQj

If anyone has mistakenly clicked on the phishing link in the fraudulent text message or has concerns regarding any suspicious calls, texts, or mails they received, ESL urges them to contact their Fraud Team immediately at 585.336.1140.
