ESPN’s Jeff Passan suffers broken back from fallen tree limb

ESPN reporter Jeff Passan suffered a broken back from a fallen tree limb, but he plans to power through the MLB trade deadline, he announced Monday.
The baseball insider said the incident occurred while he was cleaning up after a storm in Kansas City.
“A large tree limb decided to fall and crush me,” Passan tweeted. “The good news: I still have use of my arms, legs and Twitter fingers. The bad news: I have a broken back.”
Passan, 42, described his injury as a vertebra fracture.
“I will be better,” Passan continued. “I’m hoping the pain subsides between now and the trade deadline, though painkiller-fueled tweets could be a fun time.”
Passan went on to thank ESPN for its support and the medical staffers who treated him.
“And to those who are so vital to helping me deliver news this time of year especially: My back may be shot, but my phone still works,” Passan wrote.
The MLB trade deadline arrives Aug. 1.
Passan, who previously worked for Yahoo Sports, joined ESPN in 2019. Following Monday’s announcement, he posted a photo of the downed tree limb and said he plans to make a baseball bat out of it.
