ESPN’s latest college football power ratings are out. Where do the Miami Hurricanes rank?

ESPN’s latest College Football Power Index was updated with less than two months until the 2022 season begins.

And the Miami Hurricanes are the highest-ranked team, according to the index, from the Sunshine State. UM comes in at No. 9 overall with a 14.5 FPI (Football Power Index).

The model “measures a team’s true strength on net points scale; expected point margin versus average opponent on neutral field.”

It is “meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season,” and “projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule,” according to ESPN.

Alabama is rated first at 29.0, followed by Ohio State at 28.3 and defending national champion Georgia at 27.9.

Those three programs are given the best chances to win the national championship by ESPN’s Playoff Predictor with each team having at least 24 percent odds. Conversely, UM is given a 0.5 percent chance to win the national title this season and ESPN projects a nine-win season for the Canes.

Clemson is the highest-rated ACC team, according to the ESPN FPI.

The Florida Gators come in at No. 29, while Florida State (No. 33) and UCF (No. 34) are the other programs from the state in the top 75 on ESPN’s FPI rankings.

The Hurricanes begin their 2022 season against Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 3.
