Estonians brave icy waters to set new world record

Participants were encouraged to show creativity with their headgear - such as Santa hats and other Christmas decorations.

However, they were also asked not to cover their knees and shoulders and thermal fabrics were forbidden.

One hundred and nineteen men and 160 women took part in the almost two-hour long relay in the Talinn Old Town harbour.

Event organizer Aviar Tugedam said that women could tolerate the pain.

"We know that women can tolerate the pain much more," he said, adding women are the "strongest" gender in Estonia.
