Anderson set to compete in long and triple Jumps at NCAA Indoor Championships

Freshman jumper Donavan Anderson will represent the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team on Friday and Saturday at the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Anderson will compete in the long jump at 2 p.m., Friday from inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center before returning to the sandpit at 4:05 p.m., Saturday for the triple jump.

The top eight in each event at nationals will earn First Team All-America recognition, while the next four finishers will receive second team honors.

Anderson secured one of the final spots in the long jump after eclipsing a 26-year-old school record in the event with a leap of 7.44m (24-5) at the PSAC Championships. The freshman enters the event with the t-15th-best mark.

In the triple jump, Anderson comes into the championships with the 12th-best mark after recording a personal-best leap of 15.07m (49-5 ½) on his way to capturing the conference title.To follow along with Anderson on Friday and Saturday, click here for live results.

Carter primed for NCAA championships this weekend

Freshman Brady Carter (125) will represent the East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team at the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Session I for the championships begins at 10 a.m. on Friday while the second round of the championship bracket and first two consolation rounds start at 5 p.m. On Saturday, action begins at 10 a.m. and the championship finals are slated for 7 p.m.

Carter enters the championships unseeded after finishing third at the Super Region I Championships back on February 25 inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The freshman boasts a 14-3 record overall and became the fifth NCAA qualifier under fourth-year head coach Anibal Nieves. Additionally, Carter will seek to become the first All-American in program history wrestling at 125 pounds.

The Lacey Township, N.J. native is set to battle Newberry's Zach Shupp in his first round match with the winner advancing to face eighth seeded Dawson Collins (Colorado Mesa).To follow along with Carter on Friday and Saturday, click here for live results.

Warriors earn No. 6 seed in NCAA tournament

Tensions were high in the Koehler Fieldhouse conference room, with just one spot unfilled in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region during the NCAA Selection Show, the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team heard its named called as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed Mercyhurst at noon Saturday, March 11 at IUP's Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.The Warriors (23-8) earned a large berth to its eighth NCAA Tournament in program history, most recently earning a spot during the 2018-19 campaign.

After closing the season with regular season wins against Shepherd and Lock Haven, the Warriors took down Shepherd for the second time in less than 10 days in the PSAC First Round, in a thrilling 81-75 win at Koehler Fieldhouse. ESU then had to knockoff PSAC East No. 2 seed West Chester on the road, one of the teams it was battling for one of the final coveted spots, by a score of 85-72.

The Warriors advanced to the PSAC Semifinals and met one of the top teams in the nation in No. 3/2 IUP, where it led the majority of the game, before falling to the eventual PSAC Champions and Atlantic Region No. 1 seed Crimson Hawks by just three points at 67-64.

In the NCAA Tournament, the Warriors have won six games, including an NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship in 2018, where they advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Against Mercyhurst, the Warriors lead the all-time series by a 10-4 edge, including am 85-72 win over the No. 3 Lakers in 2021-22.

The winner between No. 6 seed ESU and No. 3 seed Merychurst will take on the winner of No. 2 seed West Liberty and No. 7 seed Pitt-Johnstown.
