Etowah County man faces two charges of murder after deadly shooting

A 25-year-old Etowah County man faces two charges of murder after a Tuesday night shooting, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Brandon Wagnon was placed in jail on Wednesday morning in connection with the shooting deaths of a woman and a boy. Wagnon is being held without bail.

Authorities have indicated that the shooting deaths stemmed from an apparent domestic violence situation.

According to Sheriff Jonathan Horton, deputies responded around 10 p.m. after a shooting was reported on Glen Gap Road in the Highland/Tabor community.

Deputies found the woman and the boy with gunshot wounds and initiated lifesaving measures until medics arrived. However, both shooting victims were subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

Wagnon and another person were taken into custody after the shooting and taken to the Sheriff's Office for questioning. Wagnon was booked into jail at 1:52 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Etowah County Sheriff's Office website.

The sheriff thanked these agencies for assisting in the shooting investigation: the Lookout Mountain and Highland fire departments, Advantage Ambulance Service, the Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensic and Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit.
