The new measures prohibit the export from the EU to Iran of components used in the construction and production of unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the statement. It also introduces travel restrictions and asset freeze measures that could be imposed against individuals responsible for, supporting or involved in Iran’s UAV’s program.

The EU also listed six Iranian individuals, under already existing sanctions regimes for Iran’s military support to Russia’s war in Ukraine and to the Syrian regime. This makes them subject to an asset freeze while forbidding EU citizens and companies from making funds available to them. They cannot enter or transit through EU territories.

The measures follow reports last year on Iranian drones being manufactured with components of international origin, including from Europe.
