EU aims to train 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers by end of 2023

The European Union aims to train 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of 2023, as part of its ongoing European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM), EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell said on Aug. 30, according to RFE/RL journalist Rickard Jozwiak.

Currently, there are plans to train 25,000 soldiers, however, Borrell is pushing to increase this number to 40,000 Ukrainian troops. Further details of the proposal have not been disclosed.

On June 20, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that under EUMAM in 2023, the bloc plans to train 30,000 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including troops who are part of the Territorial Defense Forces.
