EU to deliver EUR 1 billion worth of ammunition to Ukraine, PM Shmyhal says

According to the official, EU countries have pledged to deliver EUR 2 billion ($2.21 billion) worth of ammunition to Ukraine.

“EU member states will now send weapons worth EUR 1 billion from their stocks.,” said Shmyhal.

“Another 1 billion euros will be allocated by the EU for their future joint ammunition purchases for Ukraine.”

Earlier on May 3, the European Commission decided to allocate EUR 500 million to increase the production of weapons – both to assist the Ukrainian forces and replenish the stocks of EU members.

On March 20, EU countries agreed to purchase one million of 155mm artillery rounds for Ukraine within one year.

Financial Times reports indicate that Ukraine has asked the EU to send 250,000 artillery shells every month to Ukrainian forces to address the deficit, while Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov stated that millions more are required.
