EU to help Ukraine to export its grain

EU Foreign Affairs High Commissioner Josep Borrell said that the bloc is exploring ways to support Ukraine’s economy via trade and transportation liberalization.

According to Borrell, the EU will establish a series of “green corridors” for Ukrainian grain exports across Europe.
“Ukraine’s stockpiles are full, but it can’t export this grain,” said Borrell.

“They need this storage free for the next harvest; we’re working to help (Ukraine) to transport this grain by train, via ‘solidarity corridors.”
He added that the surging global food and energy prices are caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine: Moscow’s troops are pillaging Ukraine’s fields and granaries, and the Russian navy is blockading Ukrainian Black Sea ports.

“This, of course, negatively impacts the lives of people in Africa and Asia, and they are looking for answers,” Borrell said.
“But they are suffering not from our sanctions (on Russia), but from the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that Russia is inducing a global food crisis by blockading Ukrainian ports.
