EU mission to present security guarantees framework for Ukraine next week

The European Union's mission will present its proposals for security guarantees to Ukraine next week in Kyiv, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Nov. 28, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reports.
According to Borrell, the European Council approved the framework of the document on security guarantees for Ukraine. Following discussions with Kyiv, Borrell will officially present these proposals to EU leaders before the end of the year.
He also stated that the Deputy Secretary-General for Security and Defense will visit Ukraine.

Earlier, Borrell indicated that the proposals would include an initiative to create a designated section for Ukraine within the European Peace Facility fund, and that this initiative will be presented to the Council in December.

In July, leaders of G7 countries announced that they had agreed on a declaration of security guarantees for Ukraine.
On Nov. 28, Ukraine began consultations on bilateral security guarantees with the last G7 country—Italy.
