EU to train more than 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers by end of March

As part of the mission, another 30,000 Ukrainian troops are planned to finish training by the end of 2023.

“Our military assistance mission will train more than 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers,” Borrell said.

According to him, EUMAM will train tank crews to pilot modern tanks Western countries have pledged to Kyiv. Additionally, Borrell proposed a three-point plan to supply EUR 2 billion ($2.11 billion) worth of artillery shells to Ukraine.

“We are talking about supplies from existing stocks, for which I propose the ministers allocate 1 billion euros from the European Peace Facility,” Borrell said.

“The second step is the joint purchase of 155mm ammunition.”

He hopes that his initiative will be approved at the planned joint meeting of EU defense and foreign ministers on March 20 in Brussels.
