Euclid Animal Shelter awarded $32,000 in ARPA funds for repairs and expansions

Aug. 14—The Euclid Animal Shelter has been awarded $32,000 for work on the existing building and grounds, including repairs to its roof as well as repairs to the dog fences and enlarging their dog run area.

The funding was awarded through the federal American Rescue Fund Act and was one of several projects selected by Euclid City Council. Among the projects approved for ARPA funding were Lake Shore Cultural Center for window replacement, Hero Park to construct a trail and to the city itself to purchase two new snowplows.

The shelter has been in need of repair since the pandemic, which increased the shelter's demand as there was a greater influx of animals taken into its care.

"The ARPA funding will go toward repairs for the existing shelter and their buildings as well as repairs for their outdoor dog run, to build a more suitable environment for their dogs, especially when they let them out to play," city Communications Administrator Christine Vazquez said. "I think it is a fantastic use of the ARPA funds, I think that the animal shelter is a very deserving cause and that having the roof repaired and having that extra area for the dogs is going to be great for them."

The animal shelter's expanded dog run area will allow for more room for their dogs to exercise as well as provide a space for potential adopters to interact with the animals.

Vazquez said that further financial support for their building and grounds will vastly improve the quality of service the staff can provide.

The repairs to Euclid Animal Shelter will go into effect soon and the shelter urges anyone with a stray to call it directly at 216-289-2057.
