Euclid bowlers impressive at D-I sectional

Feb. 20—Euclid's Michael and Kyle Kalinowski put on quite the show Feb. 18 at the Division I sectional boys bowling tournament at Wickliffe Lanes.

So did the Mentor girls team, which took home the team sectional title on the same day.

On the boys side, Michael Kalinowski — a freshman — won individual medalist honors with hugely impressive afternoon of bowling with a 741 series, which included games of 226, 258 and 257. Kyle Kalinowski was second to Michael with a 693 and all three of his games in the 200s — 233, 214 and 246.

St. Ignatius won the sectional title with a 3,982. South was the runner-up (3,840) with third-place Mentor (3,817) and Euclid (3,547) earning the final two team spots for the district tournament.

The Rebels' top bowler was Vince Jones (605). The Cardinals were led by Dominic Pandolfi (605) and Ashtian Amaato (597).

The area had two individual qualifiers in Mayfield's DeShawn Patton (583) and North's Ethan Hutson (570).

The Mentor girls won the team title with a score of 3,152. North grabbed the final district qualifying spot with a 2,596.

The Cardinals' Hailey Simmons was the sectional champion with a 601, with a high game of 235. Teammates Ava Schick (420) and Heather Walker (418) chipped in for the Cardinals.

The Rangers' top bowler was Sydney Barzal (466). NDCL's Hailey Kinney (425) was the area's lone individual qualifier.

At the D-II sectional bowling tournament at Freeway Lanes of Warren, Wickliffe was the boys sectional champ and Fairport and Wickliffe qualified on the girls side.

The Blue Devils boys had a team score of 3,863. Wickliffe's top bowlers were Paul Lumadue, who was second with a 607, and Tony Throckmorton, fourth with a 578.

The Fairport girls were second with a score of 3,212 and Wickliffe was third (3,163).

The Skippers' top bowler was Jilian Justinger (561) and Wickliffe's was Shelby Childress (536).
