Euclid plans to switch to use more sustainable energy

Jun. 20—The City of Euclid has entered into partnership with NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions to establish environmentally sustainable plans to benefit the lakefront city.

The partnership comes with a Euclid promise to participate in the Power a Clean Future Ohio campaign. Euclid is doing its best to switch to clean energy, reduce the city's carbon footprint and become a more sustainable area with reduced energy costs.

Russ Bates, founder of NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions, said it is working with the city on different types of sustainable energy. Bates said they hope to implement solar parking lot lighting, micro-wind, solar street lighting, and solar bus stops with sun-powered electrical outlets.

"We like to work with the community and get them involved," Bates said. "We are here to take their dream and make it a reality. We are trying to take the ideas they have and do the heavy lifting so they can have a more sustainable city."

Bates also said that with the help and approval of the city, it hopes to install turbines and "smart poles" that could provide Wifi and solar lighting as well as emergency call buttons with gunshot detection.

"We are really excited to be working with the City of Euclid," Bates said. "They have a drive and good planning to implement these sustainable energy plans. What we are able to do while working with the city is evaluate everything and work with the city to see what the best way to accomplish their goals for the foreseeable future. We don't want to just accomplish their goals, however, we want to exceed them."
