Eugene families invited to online community forums for superintendent search this month

The first forums in Eugene School District's search for a permanent superintendent begin this week.

For two years, the district has had Cydney Vandercar serving as the district's interim superintendent. She was originally appointed for one year (2020-2021), but as the COVID-19 pandemic raged on, the Eugene School Board decided it was best to keep her in the role for an additional year so it could focus on those pressing district needs in the year and revisit the search once things were better.

However, the pandemic continues. So, the board's search for a permanent superintendent is underway regardless, hopeful for strong community engagement still. People in the community are invited to attend to a series of forums through January. They will all be held online and Spanish interpretation and Spanish-language breakout groups will be provided.

There's more information available at 4j.lane.edu/superintendent/superintendent-selection/.

Here are the dates:

  • Thursday, Jan. 13, 5-6:30 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, Jan. 20, 5-6:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Jan. 22, 1-2:30 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 25, 7-8:30 p.m.

The board also is asking people to fill out an online survey to help with the search, and where people see the district doing well and areas of improvement. Survey responses will be accepted until 5 p.m. Jan. 25. That can be found at surveymonkey.com/r/4JSurvey.
