Eugene police: Knife-wielding suspect stabs woman before being subdued by bystanders

A 24-year-old Eugene woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries after she was stabbed in the parking lot of Valley River Center shopping area Monday night.

According to the Eugene Police Department, officers arrived on scene at 6:42 p.m. after reports that a suspect with a knife attempted to take a vehicle. Call details included that a woman had been stabbed and the suspect was unconscious.

An investigation revealed that a 32-year-old man had been at the Texas Roadhouse at 1060 Valley River Way and touched a pre-teen girl, according to a release from the EPD.

He is reported to have menaced a manager with a knife and then walked toward the parking lot of Valley River Center where he stabbed the victim next to her parked car in an attempt to steal her vehicle.

As the victim fled to Macy's, the man was followed and surrounded by a group of people.

A member of the group punched the suspect and knocked him unconscious while he was still holding the knife.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then to Lane County Jail on charges of robbery in the first degree, carjacking, unlawful use of a weapon, and assault in the second degree.

For the restaurant incident, the suspect was charged with menacing and sexual abuse in the first degree.
