Eugene School District 4J is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its board of directors.

After the resignation of former board member Laural O'Rourke in July, the district is working to fill the Position 2 vacancy. During a meeting on Aug. 2, the board approved a timeline and discussed possible questions to ask on the application. On Tuesday morning, the district sent out its official request for applicants.

How to apply

Those interested in applying must be a resident within the boundaries of 4J for at least one year and must be registered voters in the district. Employees of Eugene School District 4J and charter schools within the district are not eligible.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11. Information can be found at http://bit.ly/4JBoard2023.

The application asks questions about why the applicant is applying, what strengths they might bring, what interests they have, important district issues, how they might engage with the 4J community and more.

The appointee will be selected by the remaining six members of the school board. Whoever is chosen will remain on the board until June 30, 2025.

The board will discuss the process, including interviews and voting, at its next regular board meeting on Aug. 16. More information about the process will be posted on the board's website.
