Eugene surveys seek feedback on parks, library, general values and concerns

Eugene officials are seeking feedback on various topics in three different online surveys.

People can give feedback on general community values and top concerns, parks and the library system from now until at least Aug. 31 and, in one survey, as late as Sept. 30.

An anonymous survey on parks closes first.

The survey takes around seven to 10 minutes and gives people a chance to give feedback on Eugene's parks, trails and natural areas until Aug. 31.

The city is asking people what they enjoy about the parks and what they think the city could improve.

An English version of the survey is available at eugparks2022.com, and there's a Spanish version at eugparks2022-espanol.com.

After completing the survey, respondents can leave their email address for a chance to win parks-related prizes, according to a city press release.

A more general survey taking 15 to 20 minutes is open until Sept. 5.

That survey is intended to help staff assess how city residents are feeling, community values and top concerns, according to a press release. Staff will use results to help provide a framework for strategic decisions regarding future budgeting options, including how best to prioritize programs and policies.

“While we receive public comments and input on many projects and priorities, it has been over a decade since we’ve conducted a comprehensive community survey,” City Manager Sarah Medary said in a statement. “This survey will help us gather data to determine how we can serve all of Eugene better in the years to come.”

The survey is available in English at engage.eugene-or.gov/community-survey and in Spanish at bit.ly/3TcNtsH.

The Engage Eugene platform requires people to create or log in to an existing account to fill out the survey.

ETC Institute, a Kansas-based market researcher, is conducting a statistical survey that the online survey will supplement.

A survey on the library is open through Sept. 30.

The effort to get feedback, called "Craft Our Next Chapter," also involves activities at the three library locations throughout the city.

"We're eager to learn what's most important to local folks,” Library Director Will O’Hearn said in a statement. “What they value, what they want more of and what they imagine their library could be and could offer."

The survey is available in English and Spanish at the library website eugene-or.gov/4981/Craft-Our-Next-Chapter. There are also printed copies available.

People also can write a library adventure online at surveymonkey.com/r/WriteALibraryAdventure to give feedback or complete one at any of the three library branches:

  • Downtown Library: Located at 100 W. 10th Ave., open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Bethel Branch: Located at 1990 Echo Hollow Road, open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. and closed Sundays.

  • Sheldon Branch: Located at 1566 Coburg Road, open the same hours as the Bethel Branch.

Eugene will take the results from the survey and use them to develop a second survey following up on themes and directions in answers to the first.

After the survey results are compiled and analyzed, the library will develop a second survey to follow up on the themes and directions indicated by the community's answers.
