European fiber optics manufacturer expands to Charlotte region, adding over 50 jobs

A Danish telecom company is expanding to the Charlotte region with a production facility that will create more than 50 jobs.

Lynddahl Telecom America Inc., headquartered in Ribe, Denmark, will invest more than $5.6 million over the next three years at the company’s first North American duct plastic manufacturing plant in Belmont, N.C., Gov. Roy Cooper said Wednesday in a news release. The 4-year-old company produces pipes for fiber optics installations, according to Lynddahl’s website.

The company will manufacture protective conduits for fiber-optic cables at its 55,000-square-foot Gaston County facility, just west of Mecklenburg County.

The 54 new jobs range from production managers and plastics engineers to production technicians. The average annual wage will be about $60,315. That’s 19% higher than the $50,746 average wage for a Gaston County resident.

For its investment, Lynddahl will receive $100,000 in state tax incentives. All One NC grants require matching participation from local governments, according to the state news release.

“Expanding access to high-speed internet is imperative to closing our digital divide, and having companies in our corner that are well-equipped to extend broadband throughout our rural regions puts us closer to high-quality Internet for everyone,” Cooper said in a statement Wednesday.

Lynddahl Telecom America was incorporated in 2023 as a subsidiary of Lynddahl Telecom for the company’s North American market. The site of its global headquarters, Ribe, calls itself Denmark’s oldest town, steeped in Viking lore and tracing its roots back to around 710 A.D.

Telecom expansions around Charlotte

Other telecommunications companies have expanded in the Charlotte region recently, as company’s like Google Fiber build high-speed networks throughout the area.

Last year, Hickory-based telecommunications company CommScope said it would add 250 jobs and invest $60 million in Catawba County to increase fiber optic cable production. In 2022, the new Charlotte-based telecom Brightspeed said it would put its headquarters in the east tower of Vantage South End just outside of uptown and add 100 jobs.
