European rights agency polls people fleeing war in Ukraine
The ongoing war in Ukraine has forced millions of people to seek refuge in the EU. The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA)is conducting a survey to determine the concerns and needs of these people in order to inform EU policy-making.
“As the war in Ukraine continues, EU countries are admitting and supporting an unprecedented number of people who seek safety inside the EU,” FRA Director Michael O'Flaherty said. This presents a whole spectrum of fundamental human rights challenges, both right now and in the future. FRA hopes to use this survey to help EU and other affected countries to develop robust solutions, for the benefit of both the host countries and people felling this tragic war.”
The online survey examines the experience and opinions of adults and children who came to the EU from Ukraine. Questions cover issues of employment, education, housing, and healthcare, in addition to problems potentially arising from language barriers, social integration, and discrimination.
The survey will conclude on Sept. 30 and is conducted across Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia – a part of FRA’s wide-ranging effort to examine the effects of the war on fundamental human rights in the EU.
The questionnaire is available in English, Ukrainian, and Russian.
FRA will publish the results in 2023. The survey is part of FRA's wider efforts to examine the impact of war on fundamental human rights in the EU.
