Evacuation warning due to flooding concerns in new area of Tulare County, sheriff says

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux issued a new evacuation warning Thursday afternoon.

Boudreaux said the warning is for residents and businesses — including all roads, avenues and access roads — within the communities of Alpaugh and Allensworth.

The evacuation warning area would consist of Avenue 88, south on Highway 43, to Avenue 16, west on Avenue 16 to the east side of the Tulare/Kings County Line at Road 16, north to the Homeland Canal, northeast to along the Homeland Canal to Highway 43.

The sheriff said residents should evacuate to Delano by taking southbound Highway 43 to Cecil Avenue.

Northbound Highway 43 is closed because of flooding.

Boudreaux urged people to stay clear of waterways due to increased flows.

Late Wednesday, the sheriff’s office visited homes Wednesday along the Tule River in Porterville due to an evacuation order.

The order was announced just before midnight due to water levels rising in Success Lake to the point it was running over the spillway at Schafer Dam.

Officials say they are also monitoring Lake Kaweah and Terminus Dam as the region has been pelted with rainfall in recent weeks.
