Fears of significant spread of the Bobcat fire dissipated overnight as Santa Ana winds failed to materialize, but residents of nearby foothill communities remain on high alert, and several evacuation warnings are still in place.

“We didn’t have much wind overnight,” said Mike Wofford, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

As of early Wednesday, Wofford said winds were generally under 15 mph, but added, “we could get some gusts — 20 to 30 mph — later this morning.”
