Evacuations ordered for SR-195 brush fire southwest of Spokane

Spokane County Fire District 3 has issued evacuation orders for a brush fire near State Route 195 southwest of Spokane, Spokane County Emergency Management announced Wednesday.

Level 3 evacuation orders — meaning leave immediately — have been issued for the area stretching from SR-195 west to South Austin Road, to East Excelsior Road to the south and to the intersection of South Mullen Hill Road and SR-195 to the north.

Level 2 evacuation orders, meaning be ready to leave, are in place for a smaller area stretching a quarter mile south of SR-195 and East Excelsior Road.

Emergency management said that a Red Cross shelter will open by 6 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary, 123 East 37th Street in Spokane.

An animal shelter will be at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.

Authorities are telling residents to monitor their phones and media for more information.
