The owners of Hobby Lobby and Mardel have donated another $10 million to Evangel University.

Evangel President Mike Rakes announced the gift Friday, a day after Thanksgiving. It is from the Green family, who own both the chain of arts and crafts stores and the chain of Christian books, gifts and apparel stores.

Springfield has stores from both chains.

In the release, Rakes said the donation is a "matching gift" and will support several presidential initiatives including completion of the Valor Center, a 70,000-square-foot arena and field house.

The $10 million gift from the Green family matches the largest gift received in university history, the release said.

“We are grateful to the Green family for their continued support of EU,” said Rakes, in the release. “This second gift from the Greens is more than a spark, it’s an affirmation of Evangel’s impact on this generation.”

The matching gift allows for the contributions of university donors toward these initiatives to be doubled up to $10 million over the next 12 months.
