Evans man arrested for allegedly strangling wife with towel at Augusta motel
AUGUSTA (WJBF) – On January 25th, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Masters Inn on Washington Road in reference to a suspicious situation.
Upon Deputies arrival, shortly after midnight, they located the victim, identified as 51-year-old Marchelle Pilger of the 900 block of River Bound Court in Evans.
Pilger was found was on the floor, unresponsive and was pronounced dead by the Richmond County Deputy Coroner. Authorities say she was strangled with a towel.
The suspect and victim’s husband, 53-year-old Michael Mitchell, was detained on scene and transported to the Criminal Investigations Division where he would later be arrested and charged with Murder.
This investigation is ongoing.
