Owensboro Barbecue & Bourbon Week

Barbecue and bourbon will be the focus at Owensboro, Kentucky, restaurants all week long from Sunday, May 7, through Saturday, May 13. Restaurants all around town will be offering specials and special events featuring barbecue and Bourbon, leading up to the weekend BBQ & Barrels Festival. BBQ & Barrels

BBQ & Barrels, the new form of the decades-old International Bar-B-Q Festival, will happen in Owensboro on Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13, beginning at noon on Friday. There will be food sales and barbecue vendors, Bourbon tastings and classes, a backyard BBQ cookoff, church cooking teams, live music, carnival rides, and much more. Festivities are concentrated in Downtown Owensboro, with Bourbon activities at the Owensboro Convention Center. Tickets start at $50. Find complete information and tickets at bbqandbarrels.com.

Food trucks battle for top spot

The Expressway Dodge Top Truck Food Fight will happen on Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Expressway Dodge. A dozen local food trucks peddling everything from pizza to Pork al Pastor will gather and the public gets to decide on who wins the title of top truck and a $500 prize. There are no entrance fees but there will be door prizes, a Mother's Day gift raffle and more.

Summer Fish Fry

The Immanuel Lutheran Church will hold a Jonah Fish Fry on Friday, May 12 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. On the menu are Jonah's Fish, German potato salad, slaw, baked beans and a drink. Tickets are $13. Meals may be eaten in or carried out.

New Japanese food and gift shop

Kitsune Mart is the name of the new Japanese grocery and gift shop soon coming to Evansville’s East Side. According to a post on the store’s Facebook page, frozen goods, fresh produce, snacks, candy, gifts and much more will be offered for sale. The opening is planned for August or early fall.

Kitsune Mart will be at 5614 E. Virginia St.

New Harmony Farmers' Market

The New Harmony Farmers' and Artisans' Market will begin on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m.-noon. Stop in for fresh produce, food products and baked goods, art and more. Wine Down to the Weekend

The Reitz Home Museum will host Wine Down to the Weekend on Thursday, May 11, from 5-7 p.m. Stop in for musical entertainment by Bob Green, Gina Moore and Monte Skelton. There is no cover to enter. Must be 21 and have an ID to enter the cash bar area.
