New tenant in Read Street BBQ building

Dishes by Dani has announced that it is the new owner of the former Read Street BBQ building, which was most recently the Milk Barn Café. Dishes by Dan provides to-go prepared meals, catering, and, at the former location, was beginning to serve as a café with a grab-and-dine cooler and a limited daily menu. New plans are in the works for the upcoming location. We'll provide details and a re-opening date as they are available.

Dishes by Dani will reopen at 421 Read Street.

Germania fish fry

The Evansville Germania Maennerchor will begin hosting its yearly Lenten fish fries on Friday, Feb. 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. On the menu are catfish fiddlers or tilapia filet, sweet and sour slaw, mac & cheese, and baked beans. The meal can be dine-in or carry-out. There will also be a half pot with a drawing at 7 p.m. Further fish fries will be held on Friday March 10, March 24, and Apr. 7. Meals are $12 per person.

Eat, dance, help grant wishes

Granted will be hosting the Seventh Annual Dishes for Wishes on Saturday, March 4, from 6-10 p.m., at Burdette Park's Discovery Lodge. Enjoy a cash bar and sample the area's finest sweet and savory foods while dancing and bidding on auction items. Proceeds benefit Granted's mission to make dreams come true for children with terminal or life-threatening conditions. Tickets are $50 per person.

Ash Wednesday meal

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elberfeld will be hosting a special Ash Wednesday meal on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6:10 p.m. On the menu will be breaded fried fish and chips, hot dogs, cole slaw, mac & cheese, applesauce and dessert. A freewill donation will be taken to assist members of the congregation who need assistance.

Poké restaurant changes location

Poké Pirate, the poké bowl and ramen shop formerly on Diamond Avenue, has been incorporated with Big Bang Mongolian Grill on Green River Road. Big Bang still offers mongolian barbecue stir-fry, but now has a menu with signature Poké Pirate poke bowls, nori tacos, and authentic ramen.

Pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday

St Paul's Episcopal Church in Henderson will host a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5-7 p.m. On the menu are all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, milk and orange juice. The meal may be eaten in or carried out. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under.

Ronald McDonald House benefit

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley will present Wine and Fries, a casual date night of wine food and fun on Friday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at Bally's Evansville Riverfront Event Center. Enjoy delicious food and famous McDonald's fries, live entertainment, dancing, auction and a wine pull. All proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley. Tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple.

St. Benedict fish fry

St. Benedict Cathedral Parish of Evansville will hold a fish fry on Friday, Feb. 24 and Friday, March 3, from 4:30-7 p.m. On the menu are all-you-can-eat fish with three varieties to choose from, sides, dessert and beverages. St. Benedict's Brew Works beer will be available for purchase. Price is $16 for adults, $8 for kids 6-12, and kids five and under free. Carry-out meals are $13 per person. St. Clement fish fry in Boonville

St. Clement Parish in Boonville will hold a fish fry every Friday in Lent through March 31, in the St. Clement Social Hall, from 4:30 - 7 p.m. On the menu are fried or baked fish filets, cornbread, slaw, sides including choices of potato salad, green beans, baked beans or macaroni and cheese, a dessert and beverage. The cost is $15 for adults, $6 for kids 12 and under. Dine in or carry-out meals are available.

St. James fish fry in Haubstadt

St. James Parish in Haubstadt will hold a fish fry on Friday, Feb. 24 and Friday, March 10, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. On the menu are fried or baked Alaskan Cod or grilled cheese, German potato salad, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, slaw and cornbread with a dessert and drink. The price is $14 for adults, $7 for kids.

St. John the Baptist Parish of Newburgh will hold a fish fry every Friday in Lent through March 31, from 4-7 p.m. or until sold out. On the menu are fried or grilled fish or cheese pizza, rotating sides including baked potatoes or potato salad, macaroni and cheese, green beans, slaw, cornbread and dessert. Prices are $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12, and ages 3 and younger free.

St. Matthew Parish in Mount Vernon will hold a fish fry on Friday, Feb. 24, and Friday, March 3 in the St. Matthew school cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. On the menu are fish or cheese pizza, fries, hush puppies, potato salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, slaw, ice cream and beverages. Prices are $12 for adults and $8 for children.

Warrick Parks Gala

The Warrick Parks Foundation will host the 2nd Annual Parks & Trails Gala on Saturday, Feb 25. at 5 p.m. at the Friedman Park Event Center, presented by the Compass Financial Group. Wear black tie, enjoy a delicious dinner, music, an auction and support Warrick County's beautiful outdoor spaces. Tickets are $150 per person.

Scratch desserts at Women's Club Craft Show

The Women's Club of Newburgh will be hosting Prime Time Pub and Grill and the Chicken Salad Chick as lunch vendors as well as offering a plethora of homemade desserts from cookies to fudge, pies and cupcakes made by club members at the 29th Annual Arts & Crafts Show at Castle High School on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. More than 200 vendors will attend the show with hand-crafted items. Admission is $3 per person; $1 for kids under 12.
