Diner celebrating anniversary with half-off specials

The Diner by Mele's will be celebrating its second anniversary on Green River Road all week from Monday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 27 with a buy one entre/get the second half off special. It's a good time to stop in for American and Mexican favorites from breakfast skillets to enchiladas and chimichangas to country steak.

The Diner by Mele's is at 550 N. Green River Road; 812-402-1272.

Cookbook clubs at Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has two cookbook clubs with events coming up soon. The East Branch on Bayard Park has one Cookbook Club meeting every month. The next one is on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with a subject of Soul food, African American or Creole cuisine.

Choose a book from the library's collection or use your own book to find a recipe and bring a dish to share and discuss. The library will provide napkins, plates, utensils and drinks.

Future subjects include bread, Jewish cuisine, and picnic food. Central Library's Cookbook Club asks you to try one recipe from a specific cookbook over the course of a month, then come ready to talk about your experience (but don't bring food). The next meeting is on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6-7 p.m., when participants will discuss "The Blue Zones Kitchen: 100 Recipes to live to 100" by Dan Buettner. The next book on Central's list is "Gullah Geechee Home Cooking by Emily Meggett."

New high-end steak house opening on Green River Road

Green River Prime will be opening in the former Acropolis Greek Restaurant building on Green River Road later in 2023. It will be an upscale restaurant serving steaks and seafood. More details to come.

Green River Prime will be at 501 N. Green River Road.

Tavern closing on Sunday, opening Monday

The Hilltop Inn has announced it will be closing on Sundays after Sunday, Jan. 15, but will instead be opening on Mondays, beginning on Monday, Jan. 23. Kitchen hours are now Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. The comfort food menu of brain sandwiches, fried chicken, catfish fiddlers, livers and gizzards, burgers, tenderloins and barbecue remains the same. Of course.

Coffee roastery changes hands, will continue to roast for Evansville shops

Honey + Moon Coffee has purchased the Evansville Coffee Co. Honey + Moon recently announced that a West Side store would soon go into the old Rogers Acadmey of Hair, and it has been added that the Evansville Coffee Co. roasting facility will be moved into that new building as well, where ECC roasts will continue to be produced for current customers, coffee shops and for retail sale. The shop should be open sometime this summer.

Newburgh pub adding food menu

The Jennings Street Public House in Newburgh has expanded its food offerings with flatbreads, charcuterie, spinach and artichoke grilled cheese, and a pear salad. A new kitchen will be added soon, so expect more flatbreads, sandwiches and salads in months to come The rollout date is not yet determined.

Korean restaurant expands menu, makes ordering easier

Jumak Korean restaurant has added new menu items and pictures to the menu to make ordering easier. Now customers may order pa-jeon green onion pancakes, guksu noodle dishes topped with fresh vegetables, Korean-style Ramen, Korean-style battered hot dogs and much more.

Latin dance party and buffet

Los  Alfaro's Restaurant will be hosting a Family Buffet Dinner and Latin Dance Night on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6:30-9 p.m. On the buffet will be Cuban-style onion smothered pork, Ecuadorian chicken with green onions, white rice with vegetables, salad with homemade vinaigrette, mini burritos, quesadilla, taquitos and bread budin for dessert with soft drinks. Tickets are $30 per person for adults and $15 for kids 10 and under.

New Harmony Fire department fundraiser dinner

The New Harmony Fire Department will hold its annual Sausage and Bean Supper on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 4-7 p.m,. at the Posey County Community Event Center. There will also be a gun raffle and auction. Adult meal tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under will be $5.

The Posey County Community Event Center is at the Posey County 4-H Fairgrounds at 11 Harmony Township Road, New Harmony, Indiana.
