Evansville man arrested and accused of dozens of counts of child molestation

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville man was arrested Monday and accused of 24 felony counts of child molestation.

David Willard Becht Jr., 61, was booked into Vanderburgh County jail after he initially fled to Texas when witnesses of the alleged abuse confronted him, according to court records.

In a probable cause affidavit, detectives accuse Becht of sexually abusing multiple juveniles over a span of months.

He faces 24 separate charges of child molestation, all Level 1 felonies. He also faces 12 counts of other sex-crime-related charges.

According to court records, detectives sat in on interviews with two juveniles. Both reportedly identified Becht as the person who sexually abused them on multiple occasions.

Becht made his initial appearance in Vanderburgh Circuit Court on Tuesday. His bond was later set at $500,000.
