Coroner releases name of motorcyclist killed in Tuesday night collision in Evansville

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's office released the name of the motorcyclist killed in a crash on Lynch Road on Tuesday night.

Mathew E. Kroeger, 22, of Newburgh, has been confirmed by Vanderburgh County Coroner Steven Lockyear as the motorcyclist killed in the Tuesday night crash.

According to an Evansville Police Department spokesperson, the collision occurred when Kroeger's motorcycle struck the passenger side of a car turning left from Lynch onto Maxx Road.

Kroeger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car's driver complained of back pain but suffered no visible injuries, the spokesperson said.

A police department reconstructionist, detective and crime scene unit responded to the scene and are still investigating.

This is at least the fourth fatal accident involving a motorcycle in the Evansville area since June.

On June 17, Evansville's John C. Mills, 21, died at a hospital after his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Franklin Street.

Luke M. Helms, 39, of Newburgh, died in August from injuries he sustained after his motorcycle collided with the back of an SUV at the intersection of Indiana 66 and Indiana 261 on Aug. 14. And in September, 48-year-old John Hatfield of Vanderburgh County was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle collided with a Honda Sedan at the intersection of Indiana 66 and Detroy Road.
