Even proms are bigger in Texas. One promposal enlisted goats at a friend’s ranch

Prom season has arrived in Texas.

Here’s what parents and high schoolers should know about the latest prom trends.

Promposals

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the promposals. For instance, in 2021, a Midland Chick-fil-A helped an employee ask his date to prom with the marquee saying “Shelby will you be my ‘chick’ for prom?”

Others make huge signs, like this promposal at Klein High School in 2019. A student at Midway High School had the choir sing an original composition to ask his lifelong friend to prom. One student even enlisted the help of Southlake Police, when they pretended to stop the couple and a sign read “Going to prom without you should be illegal.”

One promposal in 2018 at Skyline High School in Dallas featured a horse and mariachi band. A teen at Joshua High School painted “Will you goat with me to prom?” on t-shirts and put them on several goats at a friend’s ranch.

Corsages and boutonnieres

Prom dresses

Some popular colors for this year’s prom dresses are green, blue, black, red, purple, neutral and iridescent white, according to David’s Bridal. The most popular 2023 dresses feature glittery and iridescent fabrics, sleek silhouettes, sequins and corset bodices. Other trends include lace appliques, cut-outs, florals, bold bright colors and feathers. Ethereal looking dresses with chiffon and ruffles will also be trending, according to Insider.

“Airy styles like lace, tulle, ruffles, and shimmer are on the rise for 2023, which translates perfectly into a prom look,” Marta Topran, fashion and beauty creator lead at Pinterest, told Seventeen.

Hair and makeup

While popular hairstyles for prom in the past were updos, messy buns and elegant ponytails, they’re now half-up-half-down styles or completely down, per Anderson Magazine. The hair is usually parted in the middle (though it depends on the dress’s neckline), then curled, straightened or waved and half of it is put into a ponytail or loose braid. Loose, sleek and beachy hair is in this prom season.

Popular makeup is a soft glam, a combination of a natural and full glam look. This can include a smokey eye, winged eyeliner and long lashes. Eye and lip colors tend to depend on the dress one is wearing.
