Event offers free basic dental treatments

Sep. 28—While all appointments for this weekend's round of free dental treatments at Courtin Dental are booked up, the office is still accepting appointments for Oct. 20 through Oct. 22.

Those looking to save on basic dental procedures — such as simple extractions, wisdom teeth removal, deep cleanings or regular cleanings — can schedule their appointments by calling the office at (972) 722-0022.

The free dental treatments are being offered as part of a training event for area dentists who will be at Courtin Dental to learn about sedation dentistry. Part of the course requires the enrolled dentists each perform basic procedures on at least 20 patients. Therefore, those who make appointments for the free dental treatments will need to be willing to go under light sedation, and will need to meet the following qualifications:

— Must be 16 to 65 years old.

— Must be medically fit.

— Must take fewer than three prescription medications on the daily basis to maintain health (such as asthma, blood pressure, cholesterol or pain management medications).

— Must have a ride home and someone to look after them at home for at least 24 hours.

— Must not be a user of methamphetamine, heroine, cocaine or other recreational drugs, as they can increase the risk of cardiovascular events or deaths while under sedation.

Free dental exams and X-rays will also be performed prior to treatment.

While the treatments are free, in an effort to make sure those who make appointments show up, patients will be required to pay a $50 refundable deposit while registering. Once the treatment is successfully completed, the deposit will be returned.
