Events in El Paso this weekend highlight Black History Month

Borderland residents can celebrate Black History Month this weekend with events including a parade and exhibits highlighting art and history.

· At 10 a.m. Saturday, the 3-mile Black History Month Parade begins at Montana Avenue and Pershing Drive, ending at Mary Webb Park, 3401 E. Missouri Ave.

· From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, the Estine Eastside Barbershop, at 106 N. Piedras St. in the historic Black-owned commercial corridor, will be open for visitors. Estine Davis retired in fall 2022.

· From 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, the El Paso Museum of History, 510 N. Santa Fe St., will have the grand opening of the “Still We Rise: El Paso’s Black Experience” exhibit, which will be up through Jan. 13, 2024. The museum is regularly open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

· The El Paso Museum of Art’s exhibit, “There is a Woman in Every Color: Black Women in Art," continues on view through May 14 at 1 Arts Festival Plaza in Downtown. The exhibit examines the representation of Black women in the United States over the past two centuries. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
